Overcoming Stage Fright

Overcoming Stage Fright and supporting each other is as important as hitting the high notes. Stage fright is real—but so is the joy that comes from singing together.

At Asheville Senior Chorus, we understand that choir performance anxiety is real—even the most seasoned performers can feel their hearts race before a concert. That’s why overcoming stage fright and building confidence for singers is just as important as learning the music. Our supportive choir community focuses on easing nerves before performing by checking in with one another, offering encouragement, and reminding everyone that concerts are a celebration, not a test. When we support each other, we all sing with confidence..

In Overcoming Stage Fright We Start with Support

From the very first rehearsal, we work to create a welcoming space where everyone feels safe, encouraged, and seen. Whether you’re a first-time singer or a long-time member, you’re never alone in your nerves. We check in, we laugh, and we remind each other: it’s okay to be a little nervous. It means you care.

Practice Builds Confidence

Confidence grows in rehearsal. Our structured practice routines are designed to prepare us not only musically, but emotionally. Repetition builds muscle memory, and familiar faces build trust. By the time we hit the stage, we’ve already built a foundation of support and togetherness.

We Lean on Each Other

One of the best parts of being in a choir is that you’re never singing solo—literally or figuratively. We stand side by side, breathe together, and blend our voices. If you need a reassuring smile or a squeeze of the hand backstage, someone’s always there.

Concerts Are a Celebration

Performances aren’t tests—they’re celebrations! We try to keep the mood light and fun, reminding ourselves that sharing music is a gift, not a pressure. And when the lights go up and the first note rings out, the nerves start to fade… replaced by the joy of making music together.

Because when we support each other, we all shine a little brighter.
